Наполненный необычными арт-объектами и креативными инсталляциями, он даст гостям новые эмоции и уникальный опыт выхода за рамки привычного. В музыкальной программе третьего корабля – американец Sabo (создатель лейбла Sol Selectas и участник множества крупных фестивалей от Fusion до Coachella), исландец Holmar (любитель дип-хауса и балеарик-диско, успевший покорить своими сетами Нью-Йорк) и формация Oceanvs Orientalis во главе с уроженцем стамбула Шафаком Оз Кутле, который знает толк в вальяжных летних ритмах и восточных мотивах.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream on film

• 1935: Max Reinhardt’s film with James Cagney as Bottom incorporated long balletic sequences similar to those of the nineteenth and early twentieth-century stage productions. Reinhardt himself had staged the play many times between 1903 and 1939.

• 1969: Peter Hall made a film version of the play using some of the ideas and actors from his 1962 stage production for the RSC.

• 1981: The play was directed in the BBC TV Shakespeare series by Elijah Mojinsky with Helen Mirren as Titania surrounded by fairies inspired by Henry Fuseli’s eighteenth-century visions.

• 1996: Adrian Noble based his film on his earlier stage version.

• 1999: Michael Hoffman’s film set his version in a picturesque Tuscan setting, with Kevin Kline as a gentle Bottom.

20 июля в соцсетях начали появляться жалобы на проблемы фестиваля практически во всех аспектах проведения: от плохой организации и давок при попытках сесть на водный транспорт до проблем с оплатой услуг на площадках, завышенных цен на еду, грязи, отсутствии туалетов, охраны и медицинской помощи

Но в день мероприятия размыло одну из парковок, из-за чего её пришлось переносить в другую деревню и уже оттуда перевозить людей до села Тишково — основное место отбытия водного транспорта до Terra Incognita. Для тех, кто решил не тратить от 6,5 тысяч рублей за место на корабле, были организованы парковки и место отправления водного транспорта в 60 км от Москвы.

По словам участников фестиваля, прибыв на место в Тишково, они попали в большую очередь желающих сесть на шаттлы и паромы — по словам пользователей Telegram-чатов MSNDmoscow и MSNDchat, одновременно в очереди стояли до 500 человек.

Некоторым участникам пришлось стоять от одного до четырёх часов, так как при вместимости парома в 200 человек сажали не более 50 человек за раз.

Многие участники, отстояв в очереди несколько часов, не выдержали и уехали обратно, так и не попав на шаттл.

К 23 часам началась давка, а на паромы начали садиться самые настойчивые, прыгая в воду и отпихивая других участников, пишут пользователи в Facebook-группе организаторов фестиваля.

Без проблем добраться до места проведения фестиваля удалось владельцам более дорогих билетов на пароходы, которые отправлялись с Речного вокзала.

О фестивале

Фестиваль проводится с 2007 года, одна из его основных особенностей — закрытость, попасть на него можно только при условии соблюдения дресс-кода, который меняется каждый год. Midsummer Night Dream — костюмированный бал-фестиваль под открытым небом, созданный по мотивам пьесы Шекспира «Сон в летнюю ночь». Место проведения также остаётся в секрете до дня мероприятия.

Организатором фестиваля выступает компания Rise Entertainment во главе с продюсером Владимиром Месхи и режиссёром Жу Монтвилайте.

По плану организаторов, артисты должны были одновременно выступать сразу на четырёх сценах, три из которых — в «ковчегах» на воде. В 2019 году тематикой фестиваля стал «Ноев ковчег», он должен был начаться на кораблях-«ковчегах» на московском Северном речном вокзале, а закончиться на танцполе на Terra Incognita — полуострове Хвойный бор в Мытищинском районе.

Продажа билетов открылась 3 мая, их стоимость для первых покупателей составила 3500 рублей, по мере приближения мероприятия цена увеличивалась до 10 тысяч рублей, заявляли организаторы.

Уехать с места проведения также стало проблемой — добраться домой можно было только по воде, а кораблей не хватало. Однако в день проведения всё пошло не по плану организаторов: из-за ливней размыло дороги и место проведения, а посетителей ждали очереди, грязь, отсутствие какой-либо организации, проблемы с едой и туалетами, отсутствие медицинской помощи и другие неудобства.

Посетители сравнивают мероприятие с Fyre — «худшим в истории» фестивалем, на котором не было ни музыкантов, ни еды, ни жилья.

Writing Style of A Midsummer Night’s Dream

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a combination of prose and poetry just like other plays written by Shakespeare. Here, the language varies with classes or status. For upper classes, he uses poetry to indicate refinement. On the other hand, the prose is used to represent the lower strata of society. Hence, here noblemen and fairies speak in a poetic language, whereas the actors, who belong to an ordinary class, speak in prose. This distinction also marks the great quality of Shakespeare’s work in which he makes the language self-conscious. He also uses a fine trick of playing with the words. One word sometimes refers to multiple meanings such as the word “lie” which makes language, informal at times.

Major Themes in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

1. Transformation: It is a recurring theme, as characters go through the process of transformation during the play. This transformation is both physical as well as emotional such as Lysander experiences it in his emotion due to the mischief of a fairy, while Bottom experiences a physical transformation from man to a donkey and vice versa. Similarly, Demetrius’ transformation is of love from Helena to Hermia and then vice versa which is similar to Titania, whose transformation is from Oberon to Bottom and vice versa.
2. Foolishness: The theme of foolishness also prevails in this play. Teenage love, in this play, is also seen imbued with foolishness as Bottom declares “O what fools these mortals be” to refer to the childish and stupid acts of these grown-up characters whose love turns from one person to another with the petty administration of a drop of love-potion.
3. Supernatural: To create a space for comic situations, Shakespeare always brings a supernatural element in this play. The magical effect is also apparent through love-potion which affects the emotions of four lovers besides fairies. Puck and the fairies, then, take the stage, showing the use of Deus ex machine, in other words, a hopeless situation.
4. Love: Love acts as the primary theme in this play similar to other plays by Shakespeare. Characters love other attractive people around them and sometimes develop negative feelings for them later. This indicates that original love is stronger than ordinary physical love. The author proves it in the case of four Athenian lovers whose love finally comes out to be whimsical and weak such as Lysander expresses his love for Hermia, while she loves Lysander. Demetrius loves Helena but then turns to Hermia, while Helena loves him.
5. Marriage: The play asserts that true marriage is the culmination point of love. The broken relationships can be restored only through marriages and their subsequent happiness. The triple marriage in the fourth act of Theseus with Hippolyta, Lysander with Hermia, and Demetrius with Helena seem to have resolved all the problems that the lovers have.
6. Appearance and Reality: The title and the content of the play also suggest that things are not what they appear to be. Shakespeare creates many dreamlike situations such as the moonlight at night that transforms the appearances of the things to which it gives light the love that changes from person to person.
7. Order and Disorder: The Egeus’ family loses order when his daughter desires to wed against his wishes. The social norms suggest that the father’s wishes must be respected. As the urban people go to woods, the order in the social norms and relationships breaks down. Therefore, the play being a comedy restores the relationships easily.
8. Gender: The gender dilemma is obvious in this play. Hermia is in tension with how to choose her husband and for that, she has to fight with her father. However, her father being a male, is in the position to impose his will upon her. Then there is tension between Oberon and Titania that disturbs the peace of this world. The marriage issue between Theseus and Hippolyta also depicts the wide gender gap.

Все ковчеги отплывают с северного Речного вокзала. Специально для отплывающих гостей здесь пройдет перформанс «Прощание», в котором примет участие оркестр из пятнадцати человек и несколько десятков артистов. Начиная с погрузки на судно, артисты, ряженые в самых диковинных персонажей (от балетных лебедей до кроликов Playboy) будут разыгрывать этюды, время от времени переходящие в танец.

Ковчег «Будь в движении» предназначен, прежде всего тем, кто предпочитает танцы всему на свете. Здесь выступят короли тек-хауса и резиденты лейбла Get Physical немецкий дуэт M.A.N.D.Y, а также мини-десант из Мексики: коллектив Zapotec, ранее известный как Concret, и Death Poems. Последние представлят лайв-шоу, объединяющее в единый искрящийся танцевальный спектакль музыку, визуальное искусство и современную моду.

На арт-ковчеге Bombay Canvas ждите работы Марго Трушиной и Венеры Казаровой, зону, оформленную Еленой Шейдлиной и многое другое. Отличительная особенность этот судна в том, что все объекты будут меняться на протяжении плавания, передавая концепцию «белого холста». Причем поучаствовать в этом акте искусства смогут все желающие. На этом корабле играют восходящая звезда Ибицы француз Maga (резидент серии Woomoon и обладатель Ibiza DJ Awards в категории лучший молодой артист), пионер испанской клубной сцены MoM, отдающий предпочтение мягкому и мелодичному ню-диско и хаусу, а также датский кудесник Alvaro Suarez, совместивший мистический дип-хаус с игрой на скрипке. Корабль Bombay Canvas также будет самым комфортным: помимо танцола на нем можно забронировать персональные каюты.

Также для удобства гостей будет четвертый корабль, курсирующий как шаттл между местом стоянки такси и территорией Terra Incognita. Здесь, разумеется, тоже будет работать еще одна танцевальная сцена, на которой выступит трио диск-жокеев из Нью-Йорка, представляющих три грани хаус-музыки. Lovecraft — сторонник теплого и меланхоличного звука, Christian Voldstad ставит на тягучий джаз и soulful-хаус. Ну а Holosound успешно скрещивает тек-хаус и электро. Кстати, помимо собственных треков, звучащих в сетах топовых ди-джеев от Josh Wink до Kaskade, Holosound успел записать ремиксы для Аланис Моррисет и Шакиры и объехать с гастролями весь мир от Торонто до Пхукета.

Гости всех кораблей традиционно смогут довести свой образ до идеала в работающих бьюти-зонах, где всю ночь будут трудиться стилисты Sebastian Professional и визажисты M.A.C.

Adaptations and cultural references

Literary

Jean Betts of New Zealand also adapted the play to make a comedic feminist spoof, «Revenge of the Amazons» (1996). The gender-roles are reversed (play actors are feminist «thesbians»/ Oberon falls in love with a «bunny girl»). It is set in the 1970s with many social references and satire.

Moonwork

The theatre company, Moonwork put on a production of Midsummer in 1999. It was conceived by Mason Pettit, Gregory Sherman and Gregory Wolfe (who directed it). The show featured a rock-opera version of the play within a play, Pyramus & Thisbe with music written by Rusty Magee . The music for the rest of the show was written by Andrew Sherman.

19th Century

Spectacle and music continued to underpin the success of the play as it appeared on stage in various adaptations. Francis Reynolds, in 1816 at Covent Garden, introduced new music for many of the songs added by Garrick. Reynolds also spared no expense in astounding his audiences with lavish pageants of classical figures, such as the Centaurs, Ariadne in the Labyrinth, the Argo and the Golden Fleece and a number of other legendary creatures.

More of Shakespeare’s text was retained in a successful production in 1840 led by Mme Lucia Vestris but she still could not do without the antiquarian settings and hosts of gauzy ballerinas. She herself played the part of Oberon and thus began a longstanding custom for a woman to take the role.

From the middle of the nineteenth century for the next 100 years or so, Mendelssohn’s overture and incidental music was used in performances. Samuel Phelps, Charles Kean and Herbert Beerbohm Tree were notable among nineteenth-century actor-managers producing the play with ever more musical extravagance and picturesque detail. According to the playbill for Kean’s production, the tools used by Bottom and his fellow workmen were ‘copied from Discoveries at Herculaneum’.

В минувшую субботу, 15 июля, состоялась самая фантастическая вечеринка года — юбилей международного фестиваля Midsummer Night’s Dream (MSND). Благодаря организовавшей вечеринку команде Rise Entertainment на одну ночь усадьба Лермонтовых–Столыпиных «Середниково» превратилась в пространство райского сада.

А в этом райском саду развлекались, как и полагается, райские создания. Гости MSND, они же дриммеры, начали съезжаться на мероприятие с шести часов вечера, чтобы первыми оказаться в зоне Beauty Field. Там профессиональные визажисты косметического бренда M.A.C завершали их перевоплощение в волшебных персонажей.

Первые сумерки спустились вместе с литовско-колумбийским музыкантом Юргесом DID, встречающим наиболее интересно одетых гостей импровизированными балладами в стиле придворных музыкантов королевского бала. Во дворе звучали переосмысленные классические произведения в исполнении симфонического оркестра New Ideas Chamber Orchestra. В 21:30 на балконе во дворе перед многочисленными зрителями предстали чудесные обитатели сада, созданные в постановке Garden of Paradise художницей Венерой Казаровой.

Фантазийная вечеринка продолжилась театрализованным парадом-шествием, который взял на себя демонстрацию всех немыслимых костюмов участников. C наступлением темноты на озере для гостей была организована видеоинсталляция, подготовленная командой Sila Sveta, транслирующая бурный водопад. Затем она сменилась выступлением легендарных французских электронщиков – дуэта Air. После полуночи на всех трех танцполах началась активная музыкальная программа: часть гостей танцевала под динамичные ритмы DJ’s Ten Walls, Betelgaize, Azamat, а другая погружалась в минималистичный мир техно вместе с DJ’s Bedouin и Viken Arman.

На юбилейный MSND смогли приехать не все звездные друзья фестиваля, но, тем не менее, среди гостей было множество известных персон. Но главным украшением тусовки, по крайней мере для нас, стали прекрасные существа женского пола, пришедшие на Midsummer Night’s Dream 2017. И специально для тебя мы сделали подборку самых красивых девушек вечеринки.

На территории усадьбы гостей мероприятия ожидало множество удивительных уголков, lounge-зон с большими подушками и диковинными предметами, вроде крылатых качелей и гигантских цветков-переростков. На деревьях можно было заметить единорогов, а овраги перед главными воротами усадьбы были наполнены яблоками, распространяющими приятный аромат на весь двор. Центром притяжения для гостей «Середниково» стал парадный двор перед главным домом, где находилась огромная клетка бренда Bacardi, в которой всю ночь царила атмосфера цирка: ловкие акробаты подносили гостям напитки.

Как добраться

Добраться до Terra Incognita, где будет находиться главная сцена фестиваля, можно несколькими способами: по земле на своих автомобилях или с помощью сервиса Gett, по воде, а также на вертолетах.

Плавание до места проведения фестиваля в одну сторону займет порядка трех часов, поэтому для тех, кто предпочтет водный путь, организаторы приготовили отдельное приключение.

Четыре корабля, идущих от Северного Речного Вокзала до Terra Incognita превратятся в четыре плавучих сцены, каждая – со своей атмосферой и со своей музыкальной программой. Билеты на корабли продаются отдельно, а путь туда и обратно займет около шести часов. 

На самой Terra Incognita будет пришвартован настоящий корабль-призрак, где можно будет арендовать каюту на ночь. Все гости, прибывшие на фестиваль на ковчегах, смогут ходить в гости друг к другу, посещая разные танцполы.

Четыре ковчега, на которых посетители будут искать загадочную Terra Incognita, отражают совершенно разные музыкальные и визуальные концепции.

Хедлайнерами главной сцены станут британский хаус-патриарх Lee Burridge (участник легендарной саунд-системы Tyrant, крестный отец клубного движения Гонконга, автор миксов для знаменитых серий Global Underground и Balance, а главное – основатель легендарных дневных хэпперингов All Day I Dream, проходящих по всему миру) и немецкий музыкант и диск-жокей Мартин Гретчман (известный также по проекту Console и работе с The Notwist, Bjork и Depeche Mode) в своей техно-ипостаси Acid Pauli. Лайн-ап фестиваля еще пополнится новыми именами и танцполами. 

Synopsis

The play features three interlocking plots, connected by a celebration of the wedding of Duke Theseus of Athens and the Amazon queen, Hippolyta , and set simultaneously in the woodland, and in the realm of Fairyland , under the light of the moon.

In the opening scene, Hermia refuses to follow her father Egeus»s instructions to marry Demetrius, whom he has chosen for her. In response, Egeus quotes before Theseus an ancient Athenian law whereby a daughter must marry the suitor chosen by her father, or else face death. Theseus offers her another choice: lifelong chastity worshiping the goddess Diana as a nun .

At that same time, Quince and his fellow players were engaged to produce an act which is «the most lamentable comedy and most cruel death of Pyramus and Thisbe», for the Duke and the Duchess. Peter Quince reads the names of characters and bestows them to the players. Nick Bottom who is playing the main role of Pyramus, is over-enthusiastic and wants to dominate others by suggesting himself for the characters of Thisbe, The Lion and Pyramus at the same time. Also he would rather be a tyrant and recites some lines of Ercles or Hercules . Quince ends the meeting with «at the Duke»s oak we meet».

Having seen Demetrius act cruelly toward Helena, Oberon orders Puck to spread some of the magical juice from the flower on the eyelids of the young Athenian man. Instead, Puck mistakes Lysander for Demetrius, not having actually seen either before. Helena, coming across him, wakes him while attempting to determine whether he is dead or asleep. Upon this happening, Lysander immediately falls in love with Helena. Oberon sees Demetrius still following Hermia and is enraged. When Demetrius decides to go to sleep, Oberon sends Puck to get Helena while he charms Demetrius» eyes. Upon waking up, he sees Helena. Now, both men are in pursuit of Helena. However, she is convinced that her two suitors are mocking her, as neither loved her originally. Hermia is at a loss to see why her lover has abandoned her, and accuses Helena of stealing Lysander away from her. The four quarrel with each other until Lysander and Demetrius become so enraged that they seek a place to duel each other to prove whose love for Helena is the greatest. Oberon orders Puck to keep Lysander and Demetrius from catching up with one another and to remove the charm from Lysander, so that he goes back to being in love with Hermia.

Meanwhile, a band of six labourers («rude mechanicals», as they are described by Puck) have arranged to perform a play about Pyramus and Thisbe for Theseus» wedding and venture into the forest, near Titania»s bower , for their rehearsal. Nick Bottom , a stage-struck weaver, is spotted by Puck, who (taking his name to be another word for a jackass) transforms his head into that of a donkey . When Bottom returns for his next lines, the other workmen run screaming in terror. Determined to wait for his friends, he begins to sing to himself. Titania is awakened by Bottom»s singing and immediately falls in love with him. She lavishes him with attention, and presumably makes love to him. While she is in this state of devotion, Oberon takes the changeling. Having achieved his goals, Oberon releases Titania, orders Puck to remove the donkey»s head from Bottom, and arrange everything so that Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena will believe that they have been dreaming when they awaken. The magical enchantment is removed from Lysander, leaving Demetrius under the spell and in love with Helena.

The fairies then disappear, and Theseus and Hippolyta arrive on the scene, during an early morning hunt. They wake the lovers and, since Demetrius does not love Hermia any more, Theseus overrules Egeus»s demands and arranges a group wedding. The lovers decide that the night»s events must have been a dream. After they all exit, Bottom awakes, and he too decides that he must have experienced a dream «past the wit of man». In Athens, Theseus, Hippolyta and the lovers watch the six workmen perform Pyramus and Thisbe.
The play is badly performed to the point where the guests laugh as if it were meant to be a comedy, and afterward everyone retires to bed. Afterward, Oberon, Titania, Puck, and other fairies enter, and bless the house and its occupants with good fortune. After all other characters leave, Puck «restores amends» and reminds the audience that this might be nothing but a dream (hence the name of the play).

Major Characters in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

1. PuckPuck is Oberon’s clown who is an expert in playing different types of magical tricks on humans. His pranks create peals of laughter on the face of the audience. For example, he mistakenly puts the potion to Lysander in place of Demetrius making the whole strategy upside down. He is also responsible for transforming the head of Bottom into the head of a donkey.
2. Oberon: Oberon, being the king of the fairyland, seems to be at daggers drawn with Titania, who does not want to release an Indian boy whom he wants to hand over to a knight. His deep desire to take revenge upon Titania compels him to ask Puck to bring a love potion which creates a lot of confusion in the play.
3. TitaniaTitania is the pretty queen of the fairyland. She tries to stop her husband’s attempts to hand over the Indian prince to a knight. Her character gives way to a contrast motif when her love for Nick Bottom is created through the use of a love potion.
4. LysanderLysander is a young man who is enamored with Hermia. His love process shows the problems one can face in love. He is unable to marry Hermia as her father is against this marriage. When Lysander flees away to the jungle with Hermia, he becomes a victim of magic due to which he develops a love for Helena.
5. DemetriusDemetrius is a young man who loves Hermia. During the play, his love for Helena awakens. It is because of the nature of his love which is not based on mature feelings. His fickle love is evident when he threatens Helena to leave her in the dangerous forest
6. HermiaThe daughter of Egeus, Hermia loves Lysander and wants to marry him. She is the best friend of Helena. Then we see that both Lysander and Demetrius are attracted to Helena because of the influence of love-potion administered by the fairies. Hermia thinks that Helena has won the love of her lover with her beautiful height. Later, Puck solves the problem and Hermia retrieves her lost love.
7. Helena: Although Helena loves Demetrius, when Demetrius happens to see Hermia, he falls in love with Hermia and leaves Helena. Helena becomes very confused and disturbed when she learns that Hermia is befooling her. She is the one from whom it can be gathered that love is arbitrary and quite unlike men, women can hardly choose; rather, they have to wait for men to choose them.
8. Egeus: Hermia’s father, Egeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius. However, Hermia is in love with Lysander. She clearly says that she cannot do so, though, he wants his daughter to do what he desires. Her father threatens that she must be ready to face the law if she refuses to marry the man he chose. When the play ends, he comes to know that Hermia and Lysander have fled away. That is why he wants to give them a severe penalty to which Theseus expresses his opposition and allows them to marry according to their own will.
9. Theseus: He is the duke of Athens and engaged to Hippolyta. His character plays a balancing role which is supposed to put disarrayed incidents on the right track. His appearance is felt only at the start and at the end of the play. Theseus is never in dreamlike situations like other characters.
10. Hippolyta: Hippolyta is the celebrated queen of the mysterious Amazons. She is to be married to Theseus. Just like Theseus, she is the symbol of balance and order.
11. Nick Bottom: Nick Bottom is a prominent character who is supposed to act on the occasion of Theseus’ wedding. He exerts his abilities as a good advisor but, being overconfident, makes ludicrous mistakes. He also makes bad use of language.
12. Peter Quince: He is a carpenter and one of the six mechanicals who are supposed to perform a play at the wedding ceremony of Theseus. He has himself written the script of the play. He is often at war with Bottom who puts him aside on several occasions.
13. Francis Flute: Francis Flute is shown as the lowest among all other mechanicals. However, his performance remains quite impressive.
14. Robin Starveling: Robin Starveling is a slightly rude character with comic relief who plays the role of moonshine in Pyramus and Thisbe. His humorous performance sends the entire audience into fits of laughter.
